US embassy in Sudan closes Thursday as Gaza demonstrations rage

January 7, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The US embassy in Sudan announced that they will be closed Thursday amid security concerns triggered by local demonstrations protesting Israeli incursion into the Gaza strip. A Sudanese man shouts anti-Israel slogans during a demonstration in the streets of the capital Khartoum January 6, 2009 (Reuters) “The U.S. Embassy will be closed on January 8 as city-wide demonstrations against Israeli operations in Gaza are expected throughout Khartoum” the statement read.
